More than just football
There is more to experience. There will be a dance show, singer Noud will perform, and a well-known football influencer will give a workshop. There will also be water points, toilets, and a sunscreen station available in the square.
Street Football Championship
Street football is deeply embedded in Amsterdams football DNA. For almost 50 years, football has been played in the neighborhoods, formerly with the Amsterdam Street Football Championship. That tournament brought together children and young people from across the city, from North to Southeast. They got to know each other through pannas, tricks, and football moves, and played together in squares.
Stepping stone to more
The tournament was a platform, but also a piece of social connection and a stepping stone to more. For many well-known players, their football careers began there. For example, Nesrine el Achkar became the top scorer among girls in 2015 with 51 goals. She now plays for the Moroccan national team. And what about Dennis Bergkamp and Richard Witschge? They all started at the Amsterdam street football tournament.
More than a tournament
When the old tournament stopped in 2017, it seemed a tradition had disappeared. But especially for the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam, there is now the Cruyff Street League. Not only to win, but to participate. Because street football is all about fun, courage, and being together.
