More and more Amsterdammers are exchanging their garden tiles for greenery. More greenery can lead to a nicer and more beautiful garden, and your garden stays cooler on hot days. Amsterdammers who exchange tiles for greenery can have their tiles picked up for free by the Tile Service. So remove those tiles, plant some greenery in their place, and use the Tile Service. A few tiles can make all the difference.
We will pick up your tiles for free in March, April, May, June, September, and October in every district. For the dates per district, go to Green your garden with the Tile Service.
How to participate
- Remove the tiles from your garden to make room for greenery.
- Register your tiles for the collection day that suits you best.
- Place your tiles at the corner of your street. The municipality will pick them up for free.
Ildikó and Bence from Southeast about the Tile Service
“The great thing about the Tile Service is that you don’t have to think about what to do with your tiles. You register the tiles, place them on the street, and they are gone. Every time I take care of the plants in front of the house, I chat with someone and connect with the neighbors. The greenery really connects people.”
Subsidy for a greener garden
You can receive a subsidy when you make at least 10 square meters of your garden greener. Each square meter of tiles yields €15 in subsidy. A maximum of €1,000 is available per household. Amsterdammers can also apply together to exceed the 10 square meters.
Amsterdam Weerproof
The Municipality of Amsterdam and Amsterdam Weerproof jointly organize the Tile Service. Weerproof helps you with handy tips and inspiring examples to make your garden greener or your house less hot.
NK Tile Removal
Between March 21 and October 31, 2025, many municipalities will participate in the NK Tile Removal. The municipality that exchanges the most tiles for greenery wins the Golden Tile. Amsterdam is participating again. Every tile picked up by the Tile Service counts towards the Amsterdam score during the NK Tile Removal.
