IJveer 52 is undergoing a major maintenance overhaul. The ferry from 1995 will soon emit much less nitrogen and fine dust. This makes the ferry more sustainable and keeps it reliable in use. From spring 2026, the ferry will be back in service, helping to transport the growing number of passengers across the IJ.

As a passenger, you will hardly notice this maintenance. Thanks to smart planning, the schedule will not change.

Sustainability and Future-Proofing

We are working towards an emission-free ferry fleet. The arrival of new electric ferries is an important step. However, due to delayed deliveries, some existing ferries, such as IJveer 52, will remain in use for the time being. The maintenance not only makes the ferry more sustainable but also extends its service life.

Growing Demand for Ferries

About 83,000 people use the ferries daily. This number is increasing due to new homes, workplaces, and facilities around the IJ. To reduce waiting times, investments are made not only in new electric ferries but also in smart solutions. Think of a temporary ferry, redeploying available ferries differently, and providing clear information to passengers.

Also, microcars are not allowed on the ferry. This creates more space for cyclists and pedestrians.
