Do you travel by public transport in Amsterdam? Your usual route may soon change. Tram 3 will stop, tram 25 will continue to East, lines in North, Southeast and Nieuw-West will run more frequently, and some routes will get a new path.

From Sunday, March 29, 2026, GVB will implement a new route network and adjusted timetable. The plan was approved by the Amsterdam Transport Region. According to GVB, the adjustment is necessary because the city is growing and the number of passengers is increasing. On many busy routes, the number of trips will increase. This makes it easier to travel outside peak hours as well.

Tram 3 discontinued, alternative with tram 12 and 25

Tram line 3 will no longer run from March 29, 2026. Passengers can use other lines on the current route:

  • Tram 12 runs between Frederik Hendrikplantsoen in West and De Pijp stop.
  • Tram 25 runs between De Pijp stop and Flevopark in East. After the works, Muiderpoort stop will be the new endpoint. Then tram 25 will no longer continue to Flevopark.

More trips in North, Southeast and Nieuw-West

In the districts North, Southeast and Nieuw-West, various lines will run more frequently. Weesp and Driemond will also have a fixed connection with Southeast and IJburg in the evening and on weekends.

The night bus route in Southeast will be extended. Passengers will have to walk or cycle less far in the evenings and nights.

Different routes and better connections

Routes will change on several lines. Some lines will have a different start or endpoint, others will run via a new route through the city.

The changes aim to provide better connections and a more reliable network, especially in areas where many homes are being added or where many people work.

Check your trip

For many Amsterdam residents, the daily trip remains largely the same. However, a fixed route may change. GVB advises passengers to check their trip shortly before March 29, 2026, in the GVB app or website.
