At the end of December 2025, 410 thousand people below the state pension age received a general social assistance benefit. This is 4.3 thousand more than a year earlier, an increase of 1.1 percent. The number of people receiving social assistance is higher among men and women and in all age categories. This is evident from new provisional figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

The fourth quarter of 2025 is the tenth consecutive quarter in which more people received social assistance than in the same quarter a year earlier. The number of people receiving social assistance is lower than the ten-year average of 424.6 thousand.
