During the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), metro lines 52 and 54 will run until 2 AM on Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25. On Sunday morning, metro lines 50 and 54 will start earlier, at 5 AM. This allows visitors to travel home more easily by public transport. Enjoy late or in the early hours.
We expect more than 500,000 ADE visitors in the city between October 22 and 26. They want to be able to travel home late at night or early in the morning. GVB, Night Mayor Freek Wallagh, ADE, and the Municipality of Amsterdam have arranged for the metro to run longer. This way, visitors can easily travel home by public transport.
Safe Travel Home with Public Transport
Councilor Melanie van der Horst: “It has been a long-held wish to have a night metro in Amsterdam. Especially during large events like ADE, it has enormous added value for all those visitors who want to travel home safely after their party. But it is also a solution for people who work at night. During the Festival on the Ring, we conducted a first test with an extensive timetable, with beautiful results. Now we will see how it goes during ADE.”
Experience from the Festival on the Ring
During the Festival on the Ring on June 21, 2025, all metro lines ran longer, until 2 AM, and started earlier at 6 AM. All metro lines ran every 15 minutes. During this extended service, approximately 11,000 extra trips were made with the metros. Of those 11,000 trips, 60 percent were made at night and 40 percent in the early morning. Surveyed passengers are enthusiastic about the night metro: 65 percent indicate they would like to use the night metro at least once a month, and 25 percent even every week.
Information
We will work out how often the lines will run in the coming week. The Night Mayor and ADE will inform visitors in advance about the possibility of traveling home by metro after the events. This way, as many people as possible can use the metro.
‘Fast, Cheap, and Safe Home’
Night Mayor Freek Wallagh: “I am glad that we are working hard on better night transport and that the councilor and GVB see the importance of this. Especially during large events, people should be able to travel home quickly, cheaply, and safely, even at night. Running a night metro more often is also huge news for night owls, clubs, and visitors.”
