Amsterdam has taken a significant step to develop De Nieuwe Kern, the area between Amsterdam and the Zuidoost district. The area will feature 6,200 homes, new parks, and improved connections between Zuidoost and the rest of the city. We expect the first homes to be ready by 2028.
De Nieuwe Kern is one of the largest housing projects in Amsterdam with over 6,000 homes and is located on the municipal land of the municipality of Ouder-Amstel.
Vibrant Urban Neighborhood
We are making De Nieuwe Kern a pleasant and vibrant neighborhood with a mix of homes, amenities such as shops and play and sports areas, and greenery. Of the 6,200 planned homes, 30 percent will consist of social rent, 40 percent of medium rent, and 30 percent of homes for sale in the free sector. We want to create a true urban neighborhood, comparable to the Berlagebuurt, surrounded by various parks.
Improved Connections
The development of De Nieuwe Kern also provides better connections between Amsterdam Zuidoost and the rest of the city. New cycling and walking routes and improved infrastructure will make the area more accessible and attractive. There is also funding to improve the community gardens, which will soon be open to visitors and part of the neighborhood.
Collaboration and Participation
The plans for De Nieuwe Kern have been developed in close collaboration with the municipality of Ouder-Amstel. Residents and stakeholders from surrounding areas were able to discuss and think about the plans.
