Companies in Amsterdam are only allowed to place their commercial waste containers on the street at fixed times starting July 1, 2026. This keeps streets cleaner and creates more space on the sidewalks.
Containers may only be on the street on the day they are emptied. After emptying, they must be immediately brought back inside or to private property. Currently, containers and waste next to them sometimes remain on the street for hours. This causes litter and attracts seagulls and rats. Containers can also block the sidewalk.
Cleaner streets
By limiting the time commercial waste containers are allowed on the street, we get cleaner and more attractive streets, says alderwoman Hester van Buren. For companies and commercial collectors, it also becomes clearer which delivery rules they must comply with.
Delivery times per area
Fixed delivery times already apply for Centrum and Zuid. From July 1, 2026, this will also be the case in other districts and in Weesp. This means there will be fixed times throughout the city.
The times differ per area:
- Centrum: between 06:00 and 11:00
- Zuid: between 07:00 and 12:00
- Other districts and Weesp: between 07:00 and 16:00
If a container is on the street outside the allowed times, the entrepreneur can receive a fine of at least €550.
We inform entrepreneurs
The new rules apply to all entrepreneurs with a contract for commercial waste containers. Entrepreneurs will receive information about this in the coming period via a letter, meetings, and online.
