In the top 10 most popular boys names in Amsterdam, the name Adam, just like last year, ranks number 1. We welcomed no fewer than 66 little Adams. The Hebrew meaning of Adam is son of the red earth. In Arabic, this roughly corresponds to made from the earth. The first man, the first prophet.

Girls Names

The most popular girls name, Olivia, is the female variant of Olivier. In 2024, Olivia was also the most popular, followed by Sofia.

In 2025, new parents gave the names Noor, Nora, and Nour a total of 59 times to their little ones.

The names most often given to little Amsterdam babies differ by district.

  • In Centrum, Felix scores best among the boys. There were no real standouts otherwise. Maya and Olivia are the most chosen names for girls.
  • In Nieuw-West, the most chosen boys names are Adam, Mohammed, Ibrahim, and Moussa. For girls, the most popular were Aya, Sara, Maryam, and Sofia.
  • Noord, boys: Adam, Noah, and Liam. And for girls, Aya, Cato, and Julia.
  • Adam, James, and Louis lead the list in Oost. And for girls, Cato, Mia, Mila, and Nina.
  • In Weesp, the most chosen boys name was Oliver, followed by George, Julius, and Sam. For the girls, Julie was the most popular, followed by Ella, Juliëtte, Lina, Mia, Nina, and Sofia.
  • Adam, Mohammed, and Oliver score best among boys in West. Olivia and Maya were the most chosen girls names.
  • Zuid, boys: Louis, Oliver, and James. And for girls, Lily, Olivia, and Sophia.
  • In Zuidoost, the boys list is led by Mohammed, Muhammad, and Noah. The most chosen girls names are Aaliyah, Amaya, and Yara.
