We are making new plans for all forest plantations. These are the green spaces with trees and shrubs in neighborhoods, along roads, and in parks. These areas provide cooling on warm days and offer a home for animals. In total, it concerns 6 million square meters of green. We are curious about what is important to you. Will you come to a meeting?
Amsterdam has over 300,000 trees and more than 600 hectares of forest plantation, together as large as 1200 football fields. That is 17 percent of all municipal greenery. We want to keep these forest plantations healthy and safe. Therefore, we plant new shrubs and bulbs, create brushwood piles, clean up waste, and remove unsafe trees.
Stronger and Healthier
In the new management plans, the greenery will have more variety, so that nature becomes stronger and healthier. Sometimes this means we remove trees to give other trees space. From 2026, the municipality may do this without a separate felling permit, but always within the clear agreements of the management plans. This way, felling remains carefully and transparently regulated.
Think Along in Your District
What do you find important? Less waste, more safety, or more attention to plants and animals? Let us know. You can also participate in the maintenance yourself.
We bundle all responses and discuss them with experts. Afterwards, we make a report with the ideas that will be included in the plans. The daily board of your district ultimately determines the plans. They are valid from 2026 to 2033.
