The municipality of Amsterdam plans to invest 13.5 million euros in improving the homes of private owners in Amsterdam-North. Do you own a home in North? You may soon be able to apply for a subsidy to renovate and make your house more energy-efficient.
The subsidy is urgently needed. In parts of North, many homes are suffering from delayed maintenance, moisture or mold problems, or high energy bills. For many residents, the costs for improvements are too high. Therefore, the municipality wants to help with a scheme that enables sustainability.
Equal opportunities for residents of North
For the districts of Southeast and New West, Amsterdam previously received funding from the national government for housing improvement. The application for North was rejected, even though similar problems exist there.
The municipality believes it is unfair that residents of North are left out. Alderman Zita Pels (Housing and Sustainability): “It is unacceptable that residents in the North district do not have access to a scheme that is available in comparable areas of the city.”
Therefore, the municipality is now making 13.5 million euros available. This amount comes from the so-called coalition funds of the insulation offensive.
Successful approach in other districts
With the subsidy for North, we follow the example of Southeast and New West, where similar schemes have already been successfully implemented.

In Southeast, 1,511 homes have already been improved since 2022.

In New West, the scheme started on March 17, 2025. There, 2,272 homes in homeowners associations and 920 single-family homes can receive subsidies. This scheme runs until December 31, 2033.
