Do you feel safe in your neighborhood? Or do you experience nuisance or crime? Share your experience in the Safety Monitor. In early August, over 22,000 Amsterdam residents will receive an invitation by post. If you have received this letter, please fill out the questionnaire online.
As a municipality, we would like to know how Amsterdam residents experience safety and livability in their neighborhood. Your answers provide insight into issues such as nuisance, crime, street intimidation, police checks, digital victimization, and discrimination.
Why is this research important?
With this information, we can better determine where action is needed. For example:
- extra efforts in places where residents feel unsafe
- addressing specific forms of nuisance or intimidation
- measures against drug crime or discrimination
The more people participate, the clearer the picture of what is happening in the city.
What does the Safety Monitor entail?
We regularly ask people in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region how they experience safety in their neighborhood. This is done through the Safety Monitor, a study by Research and Statistics (O&S). For this research, the municipality collaborates with the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).
In addition to the Amsterdam measurement, CBS also investigates how people in the whole of the Netherlands experience safety every 2 years. This national research starts in August. A number of Amsterdam residents will soon receive a letter about this. The questionnaire is about your personal experience with safety and livability in your neighborhood.
How can you participate?
If you have received a letter, it contains a personal login code. With that code, you can fill out the questionnaire online. Participation is voluntary. Your answers will be treated confidentially. They will not be used for commercial purposes.
What happens to the results?
The results of the research will be used to improve safety policy. They also form the basis for various programs in the city, for example in the area of street intimidation, youth nuisance, or undermining.
More about the research
Would you like to know more about the research or view previous results? Then visit the website of Research and Statistics. Not all residents can be surveyed in the research. Therefore, CBS selects over 22,000 residents aged 15 and older from the population register.
