During New Years Eve, safety risk areas apply in various parts of the city. This means the police can conduct preventive searches for, for example, the presence of heavy and illegal fireworks. This measure is a response to disturbances in recent years.
The safety risk areas are established, as last year, to prevent incidents during the upcoming New Years Eve as much as possible and thus contribute to a safe evening and night.
Public Order Disturbances
In recent years, New Years Eve has been very turbulent with serious public order disturbances and incidents involving heavy fireworks in various neighborhoods of the city. There were acts of vandalism causing significant damage, arson in several locations, and bystanders and emergency responders were pelted with (very) heavy fireworks.
These safety risk areas are in effect during New Years Eve:
- Center: around Dam Square and Central Station from Wednesday afternoon 4:00 PM until Thursday morning 4:00 AM
- West: around Balbaoplein and Ten Kateplein and around Landlust and part of the Staatsliedenbuurt from Wednesday afternoon 4:00 PM until Thursday morning 4:00 AM
