A walking route will be created from Dam Square to the Homomonument featuring the names of heroes from the international LGBTIQ+ community on dozens of tiles. The first 52 name tiles will be unveiled this summer during WorldPride. The Gay Amsterdam Association Foundation (GALA) will receive a subsidy of €50,000 from the municipality for the construction of the Walk of Pride.

The names were chosen by a committee of 17 Dutch LGBTIQ+ organizations. This committee is a diverse and broad reflection of the LGBTIQ+ community.

Tribute

The Walk of Pride Amsterdam is an initiative of the Homomonument Foundation, IHLIA LGBTI Heritage, and the GALA Foundation. It is a tribute to people who have made a special contribution to equality, emancipation, art, activism, care, culture, and the right to be free and unafraid to be themselves.

Route

The route reflects the development and growth of LGBTIQ+ rights and acceptance in Amsterdam over the years. It starts at Dam Square, where until the 18th century men who had sexual relations with men were convicted and executed. It ends at the Homomonument, the worlds first monument for people persecuted because of their orientation. It is the central place where people from the LGBTIQ+ community come together, remember, and protest.

Crowdfunding

The municipalitys subsidy for the construction of the Walk of Pride is not enough for construction and maintenance. Therefore, a crowdfunding campaign has been started. It can be found at Walk of Pride.
