Buzzing bees, brightly colored butterflies, crunching gravel paths, and the sun on your skin. When was the last time you took a walk through the greenery? Green is good for body and mind. That’s why we have a great tip for you. Come walk through our community garden parks during the Open Community Garden Days on the weekend of June 28 and 29. You don’t even have to leave the city.
Nibble, nibble, little house, whose house is that? During the Open Community Garden Days, you can not only explore the park paths but also peek behind the garden fences of countless gardeners. What’s in their garden? And what does their little house look like? Come take a look. Each garden park has its own program of activities, such as guided tours, lectures, and visits to special places in the park. Below are some tips and information.
What an art
Those who have been before know that an Open Community Garden park without activities is like apricot jam without chunks. This year, the various community gardens are organizing the best activities. Tuinwijck, for example, is going on an art tour with a Poetry Trail featuring green poems, art exhibitions, workshops, and childrens activities. Not done with art yet? You can also walk an art route at Garden Park Wijkergouw along paintings, sculptures, and photos.
Visit the Wolkershuisje at Amstelglorie
Usually, it is not open to the public, so don’t miss it: the former garden house of Jan and Karina Wolkers. During the gardening season, guest writers often stay here to work on a manuscript. And now you can view the house and the garden yourself.
Gardening at organic gardening group De Ark
Itchy green fingers? Check out the vegetable gardens of De Ark. You can get a guided tour, but you can also take a stroll yourself.
Walk from garden to garden
Can’t decide? Walk through 6 participating community garden parks above the Ring A10. The parks connected by this garden trail are Tuinwijck, Rust en Vreugd, Kweeklust, Wijkergouw, De Molen, and Buikslotermeer. At the entrance of each park, there is a route description. Prefer digital? Charge your mobile, go to tuintrail.amsterdam and choose ROUTE Noord 2. On TuinTrail, you will find even more walks, treasure hunts, and listening stories. So don’t forget to bring your headphones.

Did you know..?
Walking among the greenery is like balm for the soul for many people. Really! According to research, greenery not only helps reduce obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases; researchers also see a beneficial effect between greenery and how long people live, how heavy babies are at birth, and the functioning of the immune system.
