The Amsterdam New Construction Award 2025 was won by Amstelkwartier plot 8A. The project received over 19 percent of the votes. Alderman Van Weyenberg presented the award to the residents, builder, developer, and architect.
The building contains 55 large rental apartments in the middle segment. They are intended for a mix of residents, such as starters and families. There is also a daycare center with a play area on the roof. Under the building is a parking garage. In the middle lies a green inner garden where residents can meet each other.
Sustainably and Green Built
The building is energy-efficient. Thanks to solar panels and a ground source heat pump, it generates more energy than it consumes. The roofs capture rainwater. That water then drains away slowly. This way, the sewer fills up less quickly. The facades contain nesting boxes for birds and bats. Climbing plants provide cooling for the building. The building was designed by Van Egmond Architects. Bot Bouw was the builder and NL development the developer.
Public Award for New Construction in Amsterdam
The Amsterdam New Construction Award is the public award for new construction in Amsterdam. Only projects completed between August 2023 and August 2024 participated. A public jury of nearly 200 Amsterdammers first selected 10 finalists from the 54 completed projects. Then everyone could vote via amsterdamwoont.nl/nieuwbouwprijs. In total, nearly 5,000 people voted.
The award is an initiative of Amsterdam Woont. The municipality of Amsterdam, AT5, and Bouwend Nederland collaborate on this.
