The Southeast district will grow in the coming years. In the Holterberg district near the Johan Cruijff ArenA, 5,500 to 8,000 homes and 240,000 square meters of commercial space will be built. Plans for the first 2,500 homes are ready and funding has been reserved.

The Holterberg district will be a place where living and working come together. Besides homes and businesses, there will be shops, schools, childcare, hospitality, sports facilities, and community rooms. The area will be green and spacious, with a large park and plenty of space for pedestrians and cyclists. Parking will be available at special parking hubs, central points in the neighborhood with parking space. From December 17, residents of Amsterdam and other interested parties can give their opinion on the plans of the city council.

Important investment

Steven van Weyenberg (Alderman for Housing and Urban Development): “The Holterberg district shows how we continue to build a complete and inclusive city in Amsterdam Southeast. It is a long-term investment to be completed by 2050, but an important investment in both housing and employment in Southeast.”

Construction in phases

In the first phase of development, we focus mainly on students and young people. They are somewhat more mobile and can pioneer more easily in new neighborhoods. In this phase, homes will be in the ratio of 40 percent social, 30 percent mid-range, and 30 percent free sector. In later phases, more emphasis will be placed on the middle segment. When the new city district is finished, the ratio will be 30 percent social, 40 percent mid-range, and 30 percent free sector. There will also be an AI campus, laboratories and space for innovation, and a new park connecting Southeast and the Amstelscheg.

Responding to the plans

The draft investment memorandum will be available for inspection for 8 weeks starting December 17. During this period, the municipality will organize an information meeting. After processing the public comments, the city council, and then the municipal council, will make a decision.
