The municipality of Apeldoorn is searching for a new City Photographer. Sam Warnaar was the fifth City Photographer of our city. She will soon pass on the baton. Therefore, we are looking for a successor. The committee, including ACEC, CODA, the Photo Academy, Apeldoorn Photo, the current City Photographer, and the municipality of Apeldoorn, guides the selection. Do you know a photographer who fits this role perfectly? Nominate him or her.  

The City Photographer is an ambassador for Apeldoorn. This means he or she shows the city by creating and sharing images. The goal is to strengthen Apeldoorn as a photo city. The City Photographer decides how to do this. It is important that the work is visible in the media, on social media, and in public spaces. The committee supports and advises on this. Who are we looking for?

The new City Photographer:

  • lives or works in the municipality of Apeldoorn;
  • is 18 years or older;
  • works independently and takes initiative;
  • has experience with professional photography or other forms of image making (artistic or documentary);
  • is available for two years.

What do we expect?

The City Photographer:

  • shares passion and knowledge about photography with Apeldoorn residents;
  • is visible at least four times a year, for example with a workshop at the Photo Academy, a contribution to the Cultural/Photo Café, or an exhibition during the Apeldoorn Photo Festival;
  • organizes a start and a final exhibition at CODA;
  • is active on the Instagram account @stadsfotograafapeldoorn.

Do you know the photographer we are looking for? Then send an email before March 15, 2026, to cultuur-erfgoed@apeldoorn.nl with:

  • the name of the photographer;
  • a short motivation (maximum 1 A4);
  • visual material (a link to the website and/or one pdf file with images).

Please do not send separate jpg files.

Self-nomination is possible, but preference is given to nominations by others.

How is the City Photographer chosen?

The committee selects from the nominated candidates. One candidate is nominated to the municipality. The mayor and aldermen then appoint the new City Photographer for two years. He or she receives a fee and a reimbursement for presentation and printing costs. No correspondence will be entered into about the choice.
