Due to persistent snowfall and icy conditions, it is currently too dangerous to collect household waste in large parts of Arnhem. Therefore, the Municipality of Arnhem, in consultation with PreZero, has decided to suspend waste collection immediately, at least until Sunday, January 11. The safety of collection personnel and the surroundings is paramount.

The wintry conditions make it unsafe to operate heavy collection trucks on the roads. Sliding garbage trucks pose a risk to employees, other road users, and residents. This decision affects waste collection throughout the entire city.

What does this mean for Arnhem residents?

  • Collection containers in neighborhoods will be emptied little or not at all this week. The municipality asks residents to keep waste at home as much as possible and not to place waste next to containers to prevent nuisance and pollution.
  • Mini containers for PBD, GFE+T, and old paper will not be collected this week. Do not put the container outside or remove it from the street again. Check the collection calendar for the next regular collection day.
  • Christmas trees will not be collected this week. Collection is postponed to the same day next week. Check the collection calendar for more information.
  • City center: no collection of PBD and old paper will take place this week. The next collection is next week on the regular collection day.
  • Environmental bin: the environmental bin collection is canceled on Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Waste disposal stations are open as usual this week, daily from 09:00 to 17:00.

When will collection resume?

Given the weather forecasts, collection will remain suspended at least until Sunday, January 11. The municipality monitors the situation daily and informs residents as soon as collection is safely possible again via the website and other online channels.

Bob Roelofs, Alderman for Waste: “The safety of our employees always comes first. With these weather conditions, it is simply too dangerous to send heavy collection trucks on the road. This requires understanding from everyone. We realize this may cause inconvenience, but together we ensure Arnhem remains safe.”

The Municipality of Arnhem thanks residents for their cooperation and understanding. With everyone’s help, Arnhem remains as safe and clean as possible, even in wintry conditions.
