The municipality of Arnhem is the first municipality in the Netherlands to introduce a counter for climate damage, providing homeowners with advice and support for foundation issues and damage from water or moisture problems.

Councilor of finance, Paul Smeulders: “Not only in Arnhem but throughout the Netherlands, residents are increasingly facing foundation problems and climate damage. This is significant for residents, while they often do not know how to tackle it. With this counter, we want to better assist people. This way, we are better prepared for the consequences of climate change now and in the future.”

One counter for questions about foundation and climate

Since the end of 2024, residents with foundation problems can turn to the counter for advice, quick scans, and a subsidy scheme for further research. The municipality of Arnhem is expanding this foundation counter with climate damage. The expansion stems from signals the municipality receives from residents. More and more often, questions arise that not only concern foundations but also damage from changing weather conditions. At this counter, residents can address all such questions in one place.

National leading municipality

Arnhem has been designated by the government as one of the leading municipalities participating in a national learning approach to foundation problems. This knowledge will also be useful in other regions.

The climate damage counter is expected to be available to all Arnhem homeowners starting December 1. There will be a digital counter and a monthly walk-in consultation hour.
