I, Nose, Help. But also Dressing, Mandarin, and Hospital. These are not random words. These 6, along with 2,994 others, form the basic word list for toddlers. This list contains the 3,000 words needed to start well in group 3 later on. Today, the LOGO3000 program was launched in Arnhem. This program helps toddlers and preschoolers to build a strong vocabulary in a playful way.

Superpower

Alderman for Education Nermina Kundić: “Words may be the greatest superpower a child can receive. They enable making friends, singing songs, understanding what is on a board, or expressing what you like.” Of course, children will not be memorizing lists. The lesson package includes, among other things, picture cards, cheerful songs, posters, and activity cards. “This way, children learn new words in context. The program also lays the foundation for school results and equal opportunities later in life.”

Words Build Confidence

The festive start was celebrated at the Het Middelpunt Child Center, with childrens theater Pat and Pet, cheerful songs, and party bags for all participating toddler groups. Because learning should be fun. “With LOGO 3000, we not only give children words but also opportunities,” Kundić explains. “The more words a child knows, the stronger they stand. Not only at school but also in their self-confidence and social contacts. Together, we are building an Arnhem where every child has the chance to participate.”

National Program Arnhem-East

The LOGO 3000 program aligns with existing policies for early childhood education. A total of 78 toddler care locations and 53 preschool groups in and around Arnhem-East neighborhoods are participating. In these neighborhoods, children often grow up in a less language-rich environment, which increases their risk of starting school with a disadvantage. By using the same teaching methods and materials in toddler care as later in groups 1 and 2 of primary school, children learn the language much easier. Together with the National Program Arnhem-East, the municipality is specifically investing in equal opportunities for children in these Arnhem-East neighborhoods.
