In 2025, residents of Arnhem are more confident about developments in their neighborhood than two years ago. This is shown by the latest Arnhem Livable Neighborhoods Monitor conducted by Ipsos I&O. More residents feel their neighborhood is improving and appreciate the municipalitys efforts for livability and involvement.
Alderman Marjan van Munster is pleased with this development: “It is nice to see that residents of Arnhem notice their neighborhood is improving and that they appreciate our efforts. That is positive. At the same time, we know we are not there yet and that there is still much work to be done in many places. Together with residents and partners, we continue to build neighborhoods where it is pleasant to work, live, and reside.”
The Arnhem Livable Neighborhoods Monitor has been mapping how residents experience their living environment every two years since 2001. The research covers living, meeting, greenery, and contact with neighbors. Ipsos I&O conducted the study among nearly seven thousand Arnhem residents aged sixteen and older. The results provide a representative picture of the city.
Residents of Arnhem are clearly more satisfied with their living environment in 2025. The report score for livability in the neighborhood rises to 7.4 (in 2023 it was 7.2). More residents indicate they are fortunate with their neighborhood, and half of the residents say they are proud of where they live. Appreciation for the municipalitys role has also increased. Residents more often feel that the municipality encourages them to be involved in the neighborhood and are more positive about efforts for livability.
More residents actually see their neighborhood improving. One in six residents experiences a positive development in the past year. Improvements in the physical environment and contact with neighbors are most often mentioned. Greenery, tranquility, proximity to facilities, and solidarity are seen by many residents as strong points of their neighborhood.
The results of the Arnhem Livable Neighborhoods Monitor form an important basis for policy and neighborhood programs. The results show that investing in neighborhoods has an effect and that residents feel more involved with their living environment.
