Today, the new Kronenburg bus square was officially opened. The opening was celebrated as Deputy Klaas Ruitenberg and Alderman Nermina Kundić rode together in the historic trolleybus past an image of the old platform. The renovated bus station is now much more accessible for people with disabilities. Platforms are wider, walking routes clearer, and there is more greenery. New benches and a large canopy make waiting more comfortable.

Neighborhood and shops easily accessible

Alderman for Sustainable Mobility Nermina Kundić: “Kronenburg is developing rapidly. The shopping center is undergoing a major makeover and many new homes are being built. Good bus connections are important for the accessibility of the neighborhood and shops. The new bus station makes transfers easier and more pleasant. It is now safer, greener, and more accessible for everyone.

Accessible for everyone

Mobility Deputy of Gelderland Klaas Ruitenberg: “In Gelderland, we want good and reliable public transport for everyone. That also means it must actually be accessible to everyone. We also encourage travelers to continue their journey on foot or by bike, and this bus station pays good attention to that. This makes public transport increasingly attractive for travelers and reduces traffic jams.

The renovation was made possible partly thanks to a contribution from the province of Gelderland and is part of a plan to make public transport in the region faster, cleaner, and more reliable.

Blue eye-catcher

The wavy blue canopy immediately catches the eye. Many tiles have been removed, making the area much greener. Rainwater is collected in planting beds, and there is a new staircase to the pedestrian bridge. The Burgemeester Matsersingel and the intersection with Kronenburgsingel have also been improved for better traffic flow and safety. The design was made in cooperation with the Arnhem Platform for Chronically Ill and Disabled (APCG).

Ride in the museum trolley

On Saturday, November 15, there will be a festive program between 9:00 and 16:00. Take a free ride on the museum trolleybus and see the new trolleybus, which will run throughout Arnhem from 2026. And sometimes it doesn’t need any overhead wires at all. Visitors can expect a nice surprise. Will you come by?
