By order of Mayor Ahmed Marcouch, a house was closed this afternoon due to violations of the Opium Act, the Weapons and Ammunition Act, and the discovery of a large amount of illegal fireworks. The property on Jagersweg will be closed for a period of 3 months.
Following a police search at Jagersweg, large quantities of hard and soft drugs were found, including MDMA pills and illegal medicines. Forbidden weapons were also discovered, such as pepper spray, a stun gun, and two switchblades. The police also found over 50 kilos of illegal fireworks.
Given the presence of weapons and (heavy) fireworks, the risk of significant danger to residents is very likely. The closure of the property aims to remove the propertys notoriety in the drug circuit, stop visits to the property, reduce nuisance, and restore peace in the neighborhood.
Mayor Marcouch states: “At the end of last year, the police conducted a thorough search of this property as part of an ongoing investigation. The drugs, weapons, and illegal fireworks found there – in considerable quantities – constitute a serious disruption of public order and are very dangerous and disruptive to the safety of both residents and visitors in the neighborhood. They always deserve our protection.”
Geitenkamp
The house is located in the Geitenkamp district, a vulnerable neighborhood where livability is under pressure due to the level of drug crime and drug nuisance. The neighborhood falls under the National Program Arnhem-East. The municipality, police, and social organizations are making extra efforts to improve safety and livability in the area.
Marcouch further explains: “The message is clear: we do not want entrepreneurs in our neighborhoods who serve criminals. This stance applies now and will continue to apply, especially in a neighborhood where we want to make daily progress in improving livability. Children should be able to play and grow up safely outside, and neighbors should be able to meet on the street without fear for a chat. Disregarding the rules and laws of our democratic constitutional state stands in stark contrast to this.”
The mayor concludes: “My compliments for the decisive police investigation. With this closure, we show that we are united against undermining and disruptive crime.”
