The Municipality of Arnhem, together with the Social District Team, is taking the next step in enforcement at Arnhem Holiday Park. For years, vulnerable residents have lived there due to poor chalet conditions and lack of rental protection. The park borders a Natura 2000 area where living is prohibited. The Council of State has mandated enforcement. Many residents have already left, and now the municipality will proactively approach the remaining residents to restore the park’s intended use as a holiday park.

Alderman Eva van Esch: “Many residents have lived in deplorable and vulnerable conditions at the recreation park. It is of great importance that they have a safe place to live and can make use of housing rights, which hardly apply on a holiday park. Since the number of permanent residents has not decreased further after previous enforcement requests, it is necessary that we actively engage in conversation and approach people ourselves.”

With this step, the municipality hopes to enter the next phase of enforcement on permanent residence. Van Esch continues: “We want to end residence at the park but do not lose sight of the human dimension. If residents can demonstrably prove they are actively looking for another home, they may remain on the holiday park until they have found a new place. This way, they at least have a roof over their heads.”

In January, the municipality will visit all residents still living on the park.
