Arnhem receives 138.4 million euros from the government to accelerate housing construction. This contribution enables Arnhem to take important steps toward realizing a new, sustainable, and green district with thousands of homes, workplaces, and a large park.

Strong Support

The contribution consists of 107.7 million euros from the Ministry of Housing and Spatial Planning (VRO) and 30.7 million euros from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (I&W). The funds are used for the development of Rijnpark phase 2, including relocating the NS railway yard, soil remediation, creating the new city park, and improving mobility and accessibility of the area. Arnhem previously received over 100 million euros for the first phase of Rijnpark.

Paul Smeulders, Alderman for Housing: We are very pleased that the government is once again providing a substantial contribution to the realization of Rijnpark. With this support, the construction of Rijnpark is getting closer. As a municipality, we do everything to combat the housing crisis, and this is good news for everyone looking for affordable housing in Arnhem.

Working Together with Residents and Entrepreneurs

Nermina Kundic, Alderman for Mobility: It is good to see that the government appreciates our efforts. Now we can continue working with residents and entrepreneurs on the plans. We are making space for existing and new businesses. With less car traffic, smart connections, and lots of greenery, Rijnpark will be a pleasant place for everyone. And as Arnhem grows, we ensure Rijnpark and the rest of the city remain well accessible.

Sustainable and Accessible District

This government contribution makes it possible to develop Rijnpark as a green, sustainable, and well-accessible city district. Part of the funds goes to cycling and walking connections, mobility hubs, and public transport facilities. Additionally, work is being done on an energy-conscious design of the area, using smart solutions to make the electricity grid and heating systems future-proof.

Rijnpark: Living by the Rhine in a New Part of the City

Rijnpark will be a new district where living and working come together in a sustainable and green environment. Cars will largely give way to cyclists and pedestrians. Historical elements are combined with modern architecture with views of the Rhine, the Veluwe, and the city center.

The Spoorpark forms the green heart of Rijnpark. The area offers space for 7,000 homes and 5,000 jobs and becomes part of Spoorzone Arnhem-East, the citys largest inner-city development location, with a total of 12,000 homes and 20,000 new residents.
