Breda takes another strong step towards a healthy city. At the opening of the new Seeligpark on May 6 this year, Breda becomes the first city in the Netherlands with a smoke-free park. The park will be a green, welcoming meeting place where residents can walk, exercise, relax, and play in an environment where the healthy choice is obvious.
With this milestone, Breda fulfills the ambitions from the Health Vision Bold, Healthy and Happy 2024 - 2040, which states that every resident should be able to live in an environment that promotes healthy behavior. The ambition? A Smoke-Free Generation by 2035.
Healthy, green and welcoming the new norm
The Seeligpark will be a place where greenery and health come together. Smoking and vaping do not fit in an environment where children play, young people exercise, and residents relax. Therefore, the entire park is smoke- and vape-free, with clear signage at all entrances inviting visitors to participate.
