The municipality of Breda wants to invest in urban water and keep the sewage system in good order. This is important for a healthy, safe, and future-proof living environment. Therefore, the college establishes the new Municipal Plan Urban Water and Sewage 2025-2029. For the implementation, the college asks the municipal council to allocate a total of 38.5 million euros over the coming years. This includes 12 million in 2025, 18.5 million in 2026, and another 8 million to prepare the work for 2027.
Climate Change
Due to climate change, we are increasingly facing heavy rainfall, drought, and heat. The most noticeable effect of this in the short term is that more unevenness can occur on streets and sidewalks.
The measures that the municipality is taking in this regard will continue to be implemented. This is part of the new plan. Alderman Peter Bakker (Climate and Water): “We continue to respond to an increasingly capricious climate. To do this, we need to remove tiles and make Breda greener. Half of the Breda area belongs to private individuals. Therefore, we ask residents and businesses to also tackle their own gardens and properties. As a municipality, we are creating retention basins to collect rainwater. We have the subsidy scheme Water and Green, which allows residents and businesses to make their own properties more climate-friendly. This is how we will continue to prepare Breda for the future.”
