In Breda, we find it important that everyone can participate. Whether you are young, old, temporarily less mobile, or chronically limited. That is why we are working step by step towards a city where everyone can move freely and use public space.

Goeiestoepkesroute

Starting Wednesday, October 8, various initiatives will help with this. In Princenhof, the first Goeiestoepkesroute has been opened. This route shows how sidewalks and streets can be designed so that everyone, including those who have difficulty walking, can move safely.

Mobile Changing Places Unit

Additionally, we are proud that Breda is the first city in the Netherlands with a mobile Changing Places Unit. This special restroom provides a safe and accessible place for people with (very) severe physical disabilities to take care of themselves.

The unit is owned by Joint Projects and was realized with the support of Breda Gelijk and other involved partners. This ensures that people with severe disabilities can also participate in events, festivals, and fairs.

The unit can be viewed and used this weekend at Kasteelplein:

  • Friday, October 11: 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Saturday, October 12: 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM

Back to Home Path

Also in Princenhage, a beautiful initiative has emerged: the Back to Home Path. This path, with tiles featuring forget-me-nots, helps residents with dementia find their way back home from the village center. The tiles were glazed by residents of Thebe Haga, Thebe Heilaarstaete, and Princenhof itself, a great example of how small, local ideas can make a big difference.

Accessibility requires collaboration. Only together can we make Breda a truly welcoming city for everyone.
