Breda Takes Important Step in Sustainability of Apartment Complexes with VvE Approach

The municipality of Breda is working on making the city more sustainable. Better insulation of homes is an important step in this process. Nearly one in five homes is part of a VvE and is currently not included in the sustainability efforts. With the new VvE approach, the municipality aims to change this.

Insulating Apartments

In Breda, there are more than 16,000 apartments. The management and maintenance of an apartment complex is handled by the Owners Association (VvE). There are more than 1,100 VvE’s in Breda. “Many apartments still have an energy label of C or lower,” says Alderman Peter Bakker (Energy). “While better insulated homes lead to lower energy costs, more living comfort, and lower CO2 emissions. But how do you approach sustainability as a VvE? We, as a municipality, want to help with that. Together, we are working towards the ambition of making Breda a climate-neutral city.”
