The municipality of Breda is introducing a comprehensive package of traffic measures in the city center aimed at reducing through traffic that causes nuisance, such as speeding and noisy vehicles. With this, Breda continues to improve livability, accessibility, and safety in the city center. An extensive public consultation via Plan Breda received many positive responses and also suggestions for adjustments. There were more than 160 responses from residents and entrepreneurs.
The package includes measures to close the Markendaalseweg to through motorized traffic and to make the Keizerstraat partially one-way. Cyclists, buses, and emergency services can still pass through. The Haven will also become a pedestrian area, making it more pleasant to stay along the water.
Based on the feedback, some adjustments have been made. For instance, the location on the Markendaalseweg where the closure will take place has been slightly moved to prevent shortcut traffic, and a loading area on the Prinsenkade will be removed to make the area more attractive for pedestrians.
