Update August 26, 2025
Community Center Geeren-Noord Reopens!
The municipality of Breda has entered into an agreement with SCMO Foundation for this. An organization that is also involved with community center De Vlieren.
The foundation will manage the community center for at least the next six months. Additionally, SCMO will conduct a needs assessment with the neighborhood. The needs assessment will clarify which functions should be included in the community center in the future and which residents from the neighborhood want and can contribute to the management of the community center. The goal remains a community center by and for residents.
SCMO will receive the keys on September 1. After a refresh, the community center will reopen. This will be celebrated festively. More will also be clarified about the new opening hours.
SCMO Foundation will make new agreements with SCMO regarding the space they rent from the community center.
Update August 8, 2025
On July 17, the community center was handed over empty to the municipality. The current user of the separately accessible space - the SCMO Foundation - can continue to use this space under the new temporary loan agreement with the Municipality of Breda.
What’s next?
The municipality is in talks with a temporary external manager. Our request to this manager is to provide a new, permanent role for the community center, together with residents and organizations. A plan is currently being developed for this. We hope that neighborhood residents, organizations, and stakeholders will join this new phase. Only together can we make community center Geeren-Noord a pleasant, safe place for everyone again.
