Imagine living close to your parents, children, or other loved ones before any care needs arise. This will soon be possible in Breda! The municipality has established new policies that enable the creation of pre-caregiver housing. With this, Breda addresses aging, housing shortages, and the residents desire to look out for each other.

Alderman Arjen van Drunen (Housing): “With these policies, we make it possible for residents to live close together before care needs arise. Together, we ensure a future-proof Breda.” Marije Ammerlaan – BredaMantelzorg adds: “Living close by often makes future caregiving less burdensome. That is exactly what this regulation can help with: preparing for the shared future.”

Prepared for the future

We are living longer, and more people want to live independently for longer. At the same time, healthcare personnel are scarce. By already providing space for pre-caregiver housing, residents can prepare for the future. This prevents loneliness, contributes to health, and relieves care in the future. It also temporarily provides extra housing in Breda.

For whom

The new policy is intended for residents who expect to need or provide caregiving. They can apply for a permit. Conditions include that one of the residents is eligible for state pension (AOW) or has a progressive condition. There must also be a social relationship between the future caregiver and care recipient. The housing is always temporary and subject to clear rules.
