Staatsbosbeheer and the Municipality of Breda have adjusted parking options in the northern part of the Mastbos. Visitors often parked on the verges, causing damage to tree roots. For three years, parking on the verges along Huisdreef has not been allowed. The Bouvignedreef had already been closed for some time but is now permanently car-free. Gates are being installed in various locations. This way, nature gets the chance to recover, and cyclists and walkers gain more space and peace.

Peace, space, and safety

Staatsbosbeheer and the Municipality of Breda have been considering for years a better balance between natural value, accessibility, recreation, and safety in the Mastbos. Alderman Peter Bakker (nature development): “We want to preserve the historic lanes of the Mastbos. With these measures, nature gets the chance to recover. This provides space and peace for both nature and visitors to the Mastbos. Together, we contribute to the ambition ‘Breda City in a Park’. Some measures had already been implemented, but now they are all definitive.
