In the presence of Mayor Paul Depla, Alderman Marike de Nobel, and various guests, a Stolperstein was placed on October 22, 2025, in front of the building at Koninginnestraat 24 in memory of Rita Magnus. Subsequently, two Stolpersteine were also laid at Teijchinélaan 18 for Paula Herzfeld-Kroner and Ruth Herzfeld, respectively Ritas aunt and niece. The laying of the Stolpersteine was initiated by the Stolpersteine Breda project group, in which residents collaborate with the City Archive & Archaeology Breda, supported by the Municipality of Breda.

A stone, a name, a memory

Stolpersteine – literally stumbling stones – form a European monument in memory of the victims of National Socialism. The project is an initiative of the German artist Gunter Demnig. The stones with a brass plate are placed in the pavement in front of the former homes of people who were expelled, deported, and murdered by the Nazis.

In Breda, the Stolpersteine also commemorate Jewish residents and other possibly persecuted groups, such as Sinti and Roma, who were killed because of their origin.
