Starting Monday, December 8, the commercial space at Post Breda transforms into a time machine. In the display windows of the former post office on Kerkstraat, the City Archive & Archaeology Breda and Graphic Matters present the special exhibition ‘Breda on Glass in the Display Window’. Forty unique glass negatives - photographic treasures from the period 1905-1940 - briefly return to the city where they were created over a century ago. The exhibition is an initiative of Post Breda BV. With this, the owner/investor of Post Breda celebrates the reopening of Kerkstraat until the first business moves into the building.
The series of glass negatives forms a lively window on a city in motion: from restorations of the Grote Kerk to activity around the KMA and Machine Factory Breda, from a car-filled Grote Markt to the horse tram at the station. Well-known places such as the Begijnhof, the Spanjaardsgat, and the Hoge Brug appear in a familiar but alienating light.
