Animals that are injured or sick are helped by organizations such as the Animal Ambulance, Bird Rescue De Wulp, or Wildlife Rescue Haaglanden. The Municipality of The Hague will support these organizations in the coming years. Alderman Robert Barker (Animal Welfare): “Whether it’s a stray cat, an injured heron, or a sick hedgehog; these organizations help these animals. They do important work for all animals in need and deserve support from the government.”

Need help

It has been established today that the Municipality of The Hague will provide long-term support for the care of injured wildlife. This is in addition to the national government, where the House of Representatives allocated funds in July to reimburse part of the costs for wildlife rescue. With the support of municipalities and the national government, wildlife rescue centers can train skilled staff and are not entirely dependent on donations. Unlike pet shelters, wildlife rescue centers had not received any government support for their work until recently. With rising costs, this has led to many rescue centers facing difficulties. Alderman Barker: “I am extremely proud that as the Municipality of The Hague, we want to take good care of our wildlife. A lot is already happening in our city in this area. But I want to ensure that all wild animals can be rescued when necessary. In this way, we actively contribute to animal welfare in The Hague.”
