Give Your Old Stuff a Second Life After Kings Day
You tried to sell it, but it didnt sell? Turn it in.
After a day full of fun at the free market, often items remain that just didnt make it. Dont just throw them away. This year, you can easily dispose of your old electrical appliances and textiles in The Hague at special containers in three locations in the city.
“We are making Kings Day not just a celebration, but also a moment to consciously deal with items and waste. Dont throw away your old appliances or clothing – turn them in, and who knows, they might get a second life. This way, we keep The Hague cleaner together and are working green,” says Alderman Arjen Kapteijns (Raw Materials).
At the Wecycle container, you can turn in all electrical appliances that have a plug or run on batteries. Broken appliances are also welcome – who knows, they might be repaired or reused. Last year, about 1,000 appliances were turned in during Kings Day. At the textile container, you can turn in clean and dry textiles. So worn-out shirts, broken socks, or old towels are also welcome. Everything that is still usable or recyclable counts!
Collection Points (from 10:00 to 18:00)
Center – Waterloostraat (near house number 2, by Koningsplein)
Escamp – Shopping Center Leyweg (near Fluitenbergstraat 128)
Scheveningen – Frederik Hendrikplein (near Willem de Zwijgerlaan 36/38)
At each location, there is one Wecycle container of 10 cubic meters and a textile container. In addition, there are four waste coaches in green garden suits present. Two of them assist visitors in turning in items, while the other two walk around the market to inform visitors, empty trash cans, and clean up litter. This way, they not only help practically but also convey the message of how important a clean and sustainable environment is.
