Last year, the competition took place for the first time and the Renbaanstraat won. Streets could register to create a plan to green their neighborhood, such as with trees, flower boxes, or extra flower beds. Alderman Robert Barker (Green): "Nature is under great pressure. That is why it is very important and good that people think about their own street and what they can do in it. As a municipality, we are working hard on the greening of The Hague, but we cannot do it alone."

More green is necessary

More greenery is important for the climate, against water nuisance and heat stress. Especially in concreted neighborhoods, more greenery can offer many benefits. In the shade, it can be up to 8 degrees cooler in the summer. And more greenery is good for animals. They find food and shelter there. Robert Barker: "It was great to see how many people participated last year to become the Greenest Street. You feel happy with greenery in your neighborhood. I hope many streets will participate in this second edition of the challenge."
