The Hague Hospitality Goes Green, the Municipality Assists
Hospitality businesses in The Hagues Grote Markt are making great strides in sustainable entrepreneurship. With discounts provided by the Municipality of The Hague, they have purchased heating cushions for terraces. These cushions are more efficient than heat lamps and offer more comfort for patrons. To observe how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are implementing these practices, Alderman Kapteijns visited the Grote Markt.
‘I am proud to see how The Hagues hospitality industry is participating in the energy transition. As a municipality, we are eager to support them,’ said Alderman Kapteijns (Energy Transition). ‘That is why we offer heating cushions at a discount through the municipality and provide free advice on sustainable measures with the Energy Scan. It is wonderful to see entrepreneurs like De Grote Markt Groep taking the lead. We hope their example inspires others.’
Municipal Support
Entrepreneurs can take advantage of a 50% purchase discount on Sit&Heat heating cushions through the municipality. This is part of the Sustainable The Hague SMEs program. The program supports SMEs in The Hague with advice, subsidies, and practical tools.
The municipality also offers a free energy scan. Within an hour, an advisor maps out energy-saving measures, including costs and payback time, allowing entrepreneurs to take quick and targeted action.
Sustainable Entrepreneurship
Besides the heating cushions, there are many other ways for entrepreneurs to reduce their CO₂ emissions. For example, the hospitality businesses in the Grote Markt cook using electric appliances and have a special sustainable menu. Also, sourcing products locally and delivering them from a nearby hub has a positive impact by reducing freight traffic in the city.
