Spare Childrens Bike? Drop it off at the City Farm
The Municipality of The Hague has started an ongoing collection campaign for childrens bicycles. Residents can now drop off childrens bicycles at all city farms throughout the year. Previously, this was only possible during collection campaigns. These bicycles are refurbished and passed on to children from families who find it difficult to purchase a bicycle themselves.
Alderman Kapteijns emphasizes the importance of this campaign: “A bicycle broadens a childs world. It not only provides fun but also transportation to school, sports clubs, and friends. Unfortunately, not every family can afford a bicycle. With this campaign, we want to ensure that every child in The Hague has a bicycle. Its great that residents can now drop off childrens bicycles throughout the year, as this lowers the threshold for donating and ensures a constant flow of bicycles. Moreover, the fact that bicycles can be dropped off at all city farms makes it accessible and easy for everyone.”
The municipality is looking for bicycles ranging from 20 to 26 inches, suitable for children aged 8 to 12 years. The collected bicycles are refurbished by the Leren Doen Foundation, in collaboration with students from the practical education of ROC Mondriaan and the Esloo College. Subsequently, the bicycles are given to children through partners, such as primary schools and Stichting Leergeld Den Haag. Parents with an Ooievaarspas can request a bicycle for only €7.50. In addition to the bicycle, they receive a bicycle passport, which allows them to have repairs carried out within three years or exchange the bicycle for a larger one.
