43 people received a royal distinction today during the Decorations Rain in The Hague for their (volunteer) work for our society. 42 of the honorees come from The Hague and 1 honoree comes from Pijnacker-Nootdorp, as the individual is particularly active in The Hague.
The Decorations Rain occurs every year on the last working day before Kings Day. People who have done something special for society receive a royal distinction on that day. This year, around 3430 people across the Netherlands are honored.
During a special gathering at the Hague theater Diligentia, Mayor Jan van Zanen spoke warm words about each of them. In between, there was music from pianist Ed Boekee.
Mayor Van Zanen: “We, The Hague, cannot do without people like them. They are part of the cement of society. One and all, they deserve to be put in the spotlight. A Royal spotlight.”
Of the honored individuals from The Hague, 25 were appointed as Members of the Order of Orange-Nassau (LON), 14 as Knights of the Order of Orange-Nassau (RON), 2 as Officers of the Order of Orange-Nassau (OON), and 2 people were also appointed as Knights of the Order of the Dutch Lion (RNL).
An honoree from The Hague, Mrs. (Wieke Bartha) Broeders-Buruma received her Royal Distinction (LON) in Hilversum where most of her merits lie.
