New Zebra Crossings for Increased Traffic Safety in the Statenkwartier
On April 10, two new zebra crossings were opened at the Prins Mauritsplein. These crossings were reinstated at the request of the Statenkwartier neighborhood consultation and the principals of the four local schools. The crossings are located at an intersection that recently became part of a 30 km/h zone, significantly improving traffic safety in the neighborhood.
Alderman Kapteijns (Mobility) was present at the opening “I am pleased that we can take this step together with the neighborhood and the schools. The new zebra crossings make crossing the busy Prins Mauritslaan much safer, especially for children and pedestrians.”
The neighborhood consultation also responded positively. Hanno Jol, board member for traffic and spatial planning of the Statenkwartier neighborhood consultation, said, “We are delighted that the zebra crossings have finally been installed at the Fred-Prins Mauritslaan intersection. We are also pleased that the avenue has now become a 30 km/h zone. This is the result of the joint efforts of the four school principals, neighborhood residents, the municipality of The Hague, the organization of the NATO summit, and the Statenkwartier neighborhood consultation. Together, we have worked hard to improve the safety of our children and neighborhood residents on the Prins Mauritslaan and Frederik Hendriklaan.”
The new situation aligns with the broader commitment of the municipality to a safer traffic environment in The Hague, with more space for pedestrians and cyclists in residential areas.
