The public inspection of plans regarding the neighborhood renewal of the Ludgerus Quarter did not lead to any objections. This cleared the way for the next step in this large-scale approach to this part of Keizerslanden.
One of the documents people could respond to during the inspection period (mid-November to end of December) is the so-called image quality plan. It describes how the appearance should be of, for example, the residential blocks, the green environment, and even the paving stones.
Green, Accessible Neighborhood
The number of homes directly next to the Keizerslanden Shopping Center will be increased, but the number of streets will be reduced. This creates more space for a continuous green park area, with room for existing trees and water storage.
Parking spaces for cars will be built close to the homes, along parking lanes and within the building blocks. This results in a pleasant green and at the same time well-accessible neighborhood.
At Home in the New Neighborhood
The current 256 outdated rental homes of housing corporation Ieder1 will be replaced by new construction. In total, 459 new homes will be built, of which 297 are social rental homes. Current tenants have been given a return guarantee by the housing corporation. Alderman Rob de Geest (Housing): “It is very nice that many people will soon be able to return to the neighborhood where they have often lived for decades and where they feel at home. At the same time, there is also the awareness that the neighborhood will look completely different: less concrete, more greenery, more spacious layout, and beautifully designed residential blocks that blend into their surroundings.”
Connecting Function
The Ludgerus Quarter is embraced by the Marke Zuid school and the green neighborhood park at the rear of the senior living complex Ludgerus, the Godebald Park (located opposite the Humanitas residential and care center), and the Keizerslanden Shopping Center. The new design of the Ludgerus Quarter connects them all for slow traffic, such as walking and cycling.
Next Steps
The environmental plan and image quality plan have now been submitted by the mayor and aldermen to the council. After the councils decision, the documents will be made available for inspection again for 6 weeks.
