The renovation plans for De Scheg have been further developed into a design sketch in recent months, which employees and tenants such as sports clubs have responded to positively. The design sketch, together with an updated investment estimate, will be submitted to the municipal council of Deventer.

Working towards a final design

During the design process, careful steps were taken towards a feasible and future-proof plan, involving the architect of De Scheg and a cost expert. Employees and users of De Scheg were actively involved and could provide input on the design sketches and choices made. The reactions are positive and provide valuable points of attention for the next phase, in which a final design will be developed.

Investment

The updated investment estimate for the renovation amounts to €45.5 million (including VAT). This is the result of further elaboration of the design and additional choices in the areas of sustainability, water conservation, and functional improvements. The estimate remains within the previously outlined financial range and also fits within the operation of the Sports Company.

Positive reactions

Maarten Kuiper, director of Sportbedrijf Deventer: “It is positive to see that the design sketch is so well received by the people who use De Scheg daily. Their involvement helps us to further improve the plan. With this step, we lay a solid foundation for a future-proof sports complex that can last for many more years.”

Alderman Rob de Geest (Sports) also responds positively: “Because this is a substantial investment for an iconic sports complex, we do not take it lightly. That is why this process goes step by step. Together we ensure that future generations can also play sports, exercise, and relax in one of the most beautiful sports facilities in Eastern Netherlands.”

Follow-up

The municipal council is expected to make a decision on the plan this spring. Upon approval, the final design and tendering can be prepared.
