The Vallei and Veluwe Water Authority has found blue-green algae in the Kraatsvijver. These algae create a thin layer on the waters surface.

Public Health

People who come into contact with the water may experience skin rashes and gastrointestinal problems. This can happen if water is swallowed or if contact is made through the skin or eyes with the blue-green algae. For those who do come into contact with the water, it is sufficient to shower well afterward. Young children are more vulnerable as they often ingest relatively more water than adults. Animals that drink the water can become seriously ill or even die. If dogs become ill, it is advisable to inform the veterinarian that the animal has come into contact with blue-green algae.

Warning Signs

The municipality will place warning signs near the pond.

  • Avoid contact with the water: water with blue-green algae is unsuitable for swimming, and boating and fishing are strongly discouraged by the water authority and municipality.
  • Ensure that dogs do not swim in the ditch or drink from the water.
