In 2025, we commemorate 80 years of freedom in Ede. To give special attention to this, the podcast Studio Freedom was created. In 5 episodes, listeners are taken through a special piece of Edes history. The first episode is available for free to listen to and watch from March 13 via Spotify (Studio Freedom) and YouTube (@gemeente-ede).
The Battle of Otterlo, Operation Market Garden, and the weapon drop in Lunteren are a few examples of events in Ede during World War II.
Episode 1: The Fatal Weapon Drop in Lunteren
The first episode is about the fatal weapon drop in Lunteren in March 1945. The allies are working to provide weapons to resistance fighters in the Netherlands. This way, the resistance can help with the liberation that is approaching. The first weapon drop at the Keuenklep in Lunteren is a successful action. A second weapon drop follows.
The second ends in tragedy. Why did the second weapon drop have such dramatic consequences? Episode 1 of Studio Freedom discusses this with Ed van Seters. Ed is a veteran and son of a resistance fighter. In this episode of the podcast, he talks about courage, sacrifices, and the thin line between heroism and tragedy.
