Tenants who make a positive contribution to the livability of their neighborhood can in some neighborhoods qualify faster for social rental housing. The municipal executive board enters into an experimental agreement with housing corporation Woonstede for this purpose.
The experiment in Ede means that Woonstede will allocate social rental homes targeted for two years to people who want to contribute to strengthening the livability in their neighborhood or building. Eight residential buildings have been selected where livability can be improved. Approximately 10 homes per building will be allocated targeted over the next two years. Woonstede expects to start the experiment in Kleefsehof and Hoogbouw Ede-Zuid early 2026.
Targeted allocation
Targeted allocation means that in addition to registration time, the motivation of the housing seeker to contribute to livability is also important. Of course, this housing seeker must also be registered with Huiswaarts and meet the conditions for social rental housing. Specific housing labels on the homes remain intact. This means, for example, that homes with a senior label are still only assigned to seniors.
Motivation
After sorting candidates by registration time, a first selection is made based on a questionnaire and then a second by an interview with the selection committee. The motivation of the candidates must show how they want to contribute to livability in the neighborhood and the connection and involvement of residents.
New residents agree in the rental agreement that they will volunteer an average of 8 hours per month for the residential community. Interim evaluation moments are organized to discuss the commitment.
Alderman for Housing Bram van der Beek: “I am pleased that Woonstede and the municipality dare to undertake this experiment. A nice way to work on the livability of a neighborhood from within through housing allocation.”
Livability increases
The initiative for this proposal came from Woonstede. An experimental article is included in the housing regulation of the municipality of Ede. It states that one or more housing corporations in cooperation with one or more municipalities in the Foodvalley region can organize an experiment with targeted allocation.
Similar experiments in other municipalities proved successful after evaluation. In the neighborhoods, there was an increase in social cohesion and a decrease in loneliness.
