During the daily duties of enforcement officers, a group of youths was confronted about their behavior in the Market Square in Ede. They were riding fatbikes in the pedestrian area and making a lot of noise. This escalated into a serious incident, where one of the youths from the group kicked an enforcement officer in the head. Colleague enforcement officers had to threaten with the use of a baton to restore order. The involved enforcement officer went to the hospital for treatment.
Mayor René Verhulst: “Our enforcement officers work on the streets daily to ensure safety and livability in Ede. It is unacceptable and unbelievable that they are confronted with aggression, threats, intimidation, or violence during their work, in any way. Kicking an enforcement officer is utterly ridiculous. We stand firmly behind our employees and will do everything we can to guarantee their safety. We will also take legal action. A report has been filed for assault, and I expect that this will be pursued vigorously.”
