In recent weeks, the police in Ede have found large quantities of fireworks in homes on Wielewaallaan, Stephensonstraat, and Groevenbeek. The discoveries were made following targeted police checks. These quantities far exceed the permitted storage limits, are illegal, and thus pose a serious safety risk to residents and neighbors.
Mayor René Verhulst: “Storing large quantities of fireworks in a home is extremely dangerous. It carries enormous risks: from fire hazards to explosion hazards, with potentially serious consequences for entire neighborhoods. That is why I want to take action against it.” The residents of these properties will receive an administrative warning. Next time, the house will be closed for a certain period. Of course, penalties will also follow through the police.
Awareness
The municipality calls on residents to be alert to dangerous situations and to handle fireworks responsibly. Residents are asked to report suspicious situations to the police or via Report Crime Anonymously. With the measures taken, the municipality aims to prevent recurrence and increase awareness of the dangers of illegal storage and sale.
